Experience Jerusalem!

Studying at Hebrew University comes with a major benefit: the opportunity to live in Jerusalem – one of the most exciting and fascinating cities in the world. On the one hand, Jerusalem is very intense: it is considered holy by Jews, Muslims and Christians, and every stone holds thousands of years of history and culture. One never tires of exploring the city’s many beautiful and extraordinary attractions, and discovering special spots that have tremendous historical and religious significance. Wherever you go in Jerusalem, you will encounter breathtaking sights which will inevitably turn you into an avid photographer.

The local population is no less fascinating: Jerusalem is home to a human mosaic of Jews, Muslims, Christians, secular, religious, locals and expats from around the world. English can be heard everywhere, as well as many other foreign languages.

At the same time, Jerusalem is a fun place to live, and it includes a large, vibrant community of students from all over the globe. Young people congregate at trendy cafes and bars, as well as at the city’s #1 night spot – the Mahane Yehuda shuk. During the day, the colorful market boasts hundreds of mouthwatering stalls that sell everything from feta cheese and fresh vegetables to gourmet halva and falafel. In the evening, the stalls make way for dozens of restaurants and bars. Another popular location is the First Station – a historical train station that was transformed into an entertainment venue with restaurants, live music, exhibitions, vendors, and 7-D movies.

Jerusalem’s vibrant cultural scene consists of many art galleries and museums, theaters and concert halls, restaurants and cafes, pubs and dance clubs. The city's diverse neighborhoods are home to a variety of restaurants with cuisine representing every region of the world. Throughout the year, the city hosts festivals, exhibitions, international conferences and sports competitions. The Municipality of Jerusalem’s Events and Tourism website and the Go Jerusalem website offer a wealth of information about activities in the city.

Hebrew University students also enjoy many social, cultural, artistic and spiritual opportunities on the university campuses. Students can take part in stimulating lectures and seminars, diverse social, cultural and religious activities, and invigorating athletic and recreational pursuits. Information about lectures, conferences, concerts and exhibitions can be found on the university's various Events Calendars; many of these are open to the general public. The Students Union and Hillel organize numerous events throughout the year.
